2020 Toyota Camry TRD Toyota is once again bringing its racing pedigree for the road since it unveils the Camry TRD and Avalon TRD, two sedans with the appetite for curves and a distinct exhaust note bristling with attitude. If your 2020 Toyota Camry TRD goes on discount sales in the fall of 2019 we expect Toyota’s top-performing Toyota sedan to become priced around $40,000.
Base Powertrain
The base powertrain for the Camry is a 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder engine that makes 203 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. Upper trims offer a 3.5-liter V6 that makes 301 horsepower and 267 lb-ft. Every Camry is front-wheel drive (FWD) and relies upon an 8-speed automatic transmission. As far as fuel economy, the 4-cylinder engine achieves 29 mpg city, 41 highway, and 34 combined. Meanwhile, the V6 delivers 22, 32, and 26.
New Features
The model also benefits from exclusive aerodynamic elements that complement the racier silhouette of the next-generation Camry; the TRD-modified chassis has a more dynamic posture as well. The aerodynamic body kit includes a front splitter, side aero skirts, trunk lid spoiler and rear diffuser. All of this, Toyota promises, results in better stability at higher speeds. Also included are red pinstriping, red-painted brake calipers and red TRD badging.
The Interior
Inside, drivers are treated to red accents before they get the red mist. The TRD Camry’s black interior sees red stripes on the seats and a red TRD” stitched into the headrests. There also are red seatbelts; red edging on the floor mats; and red contrast stitching on the dash, steering wheel, gear lever, and shift boot. The gauge numbers also are red.
TRD Features
The 2020 Toyota Camry TRD features an aggressive front with a white 9004 led bulb end highlighted by a black grille with the brand’s emblem at its center. Large intakes under the emphasis the Camry TRD’s sporty appearance. Other distinctive appearance features of the 2020 Toyota Camry TRD includes a black integrated rear spoiler and TRD badging around the vehicle. Inside, the Camry TRD features red accents and stitching along with TRD embroidered headrests. The 2020 Camry XSE features an elegant front end with sleek lines along with the hood and the sides of the sedan. Inside, the XSE features top-of-the-line materials and upgraded luxury and convenience features. Overall, the 2020 Toyota Camry TRD offers a more aggressive sporty appearance while the 2020 Toyota Camry XSE offers a more luxury-oriented appearance.
Well, on the autocross at least, it’s very much the sum of its changes. Stiffer, louder, grippier, and moderately sharper than the XSE. While the summer tires likely had the largest effect, the suspension and chassis tweaks don’t go unnoticed. Though the steering ratio is identical to the regular Camry, turn-in is slightly quicker, sudden directional changes more composed. When it was my turn to drive, the brakes were already a bit too hot to get an accurate feel for the reworked pedal, but stopping power is more than adequate, even for an autocross. It sounded pretty damn good, too.
